- (continued from previous page)for black leg. The root of the male fern is a cure for tape worm and fluke. The nettle is used for food and also for a cure. When a nettle is boiled it is a cure for measles. It's also given to young ducks and pigs and other animals. The thistle grows in rich land. It never grows in poor land. There are other herbs for food called pot herbs. There names are chives, sage, mint. camomile, savoury and horse radish.
