- On Saint Stephen's Day boys go around from house to house, with a wren. They gather money by dancing and singing and playing music. They are masked and dressed in different coloured garments. When they are entering the house they sing the wren song, the lines of which are:-
"The wren, the wren, the king of all birds,
Saint Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze,
Although he is little his family is great,
Arise kind lady and give us a treat,
Up with the kettle and down with the pan,
Give us the money to bury the wren."
Then they get money from the people of the house and it is divided later equally between them.
On Saint Patricks Day people wear the shamrock.
On Shrove Tuesday they make pancakes and enjoy the day because the next day is Ash Wednesday.
On Easter Sunday people eat Easter eggs to honour the feast day.
On Whit Sunday anybody does not like to be on the grass or dirty water in case the sickness would follow.
On the first of November people duck apples(continues on next page)
