  1. Shops were not plentiful long ago. There were shops in it long ago that is not in it now. William Ruane's, Egan's, Devaney's, Lang's, Gill's, John Donagan's, Tom Calaghan and Ervin's shops were in it long ago and not in it now. All these shops were in Ballina.
