  1. In Carracastle where John Barrett is now a man called Gilmartin was living in it one time. Long ago it was a custom to have the fowl in the house. Where the hens are fed it is sometimes likely that a rat will ramble round too.
    In this house there was no cat and there was one bold rat which had the house to himself. Every time when the hends were eating the rat came out to have his share.
