  1. Many are the tales of this highwayman which are still remembered by the people of Glenree.
    Rory was not a native of this place. he came from Leyney to the east of the Ox mountains. He was a survivor from the battle of Ballinamuck.
    He had many hiding places amongst the rocks and caves in that portion of the Ox mts. which form the north eastern boundary of Glenree.
    His principal hiding place was in the Sgailp where "Rory's cave" is still pointed out.
    The Sgailp is in the North east of the Glen. Here Glenree River flows through a deep gorge and in the side of one of the steep banks is "Rory's cave.
