    whiskey or poteen at Christmas. Most men made a "round" of poteen before the feast. They had I am sure, more whiskey then than we have now, because it was much cheaper.
    The houses were whitewashed, inside and outside before Christmas, and ivy, or holly was put on the walls.
    On Christmas night, candles were lit and one was put in every window - usually there was only one window. Then the supper was got ready. Some delph, a currant cake and whiskey were put on the table. Tea was then made.
    The whole family sat down to partake of luxuries that would not be seen again for a year. The door was left open so that strangers could come in.
    Next day a goose was roasted for the dinner.
    On the 26th December, St. Stephen's Day, children dress up and go about, singing : -
