  1. There was a Gambeen man in Swinford once upon a time and his name was Mellet. This would be only about forty five years ago. He used to give out money and charge an awful high rate of interest. The people before they would go to England used to go into him to get the cost; but you would not get it unless you had two men in to bail you for it. Besides before you left the house you might have more than half the money spent as he would make you buy some things and he would charge you what he liked for them.
