About 200 yards from the school there are ruins of a cottage at one end of which there are the ruins of a local forge which was established there about 105 years ago. The blacksmith was a man named Michael Kelly.
In those times, unlike now, farm implements were not sold in shops, Instead they were made in the forge. In Spring he was very busy.
He worked at the forge many years and after his death was succeeded by his son known as "Patch a Gabha" who till his death about forty years ago worked at the same trade in the same place.
Every night after work the boys and men gathered into the forge where they discussed local topics.
