    he got food and lodgings for the night. He was poorly paid - his weekly earnings being a penny per week per pupil.
    This type of school continued to 1829 when through the efforts of Daniel O Connell the great Liberator religious liberty was achieved.
    A few years later a Board was established in Ireland known as the National Board whose aim was to build schools and provide teachers. The first school was built in this locality in 1872. Its principal was the very able teacher Mr. Brabazon. It was a lovely one storey building and all the children from the adjoining townlands were in attendance. Mr. Brabazon taught in it for 27 years. By this time it was old and dilapidated so it was replaced by a new one which was opened in 1918 by our present
