  1. There was once a man who lived in the village of Cashel. One night he went to visit in a neighbouring house. On his way he had to pass by "Doine" bog. It was very late when he was returning home, and as he was (returning home) passing by the bog he heard a strange noise. He looked around and what should he see beside him but a black dog which was whimpering, and his eyes shining in his head like live coals. The man became greatly alarmed, and tried to run away,
