  1. My father told me that Bill Carney of Straide was a strong man. He was a young man twenty years ago. He is now dead. He often went to Aitkins of Bohola to throw weights and practise other games to test his strength with that of other boys. He used to throw half a hundred weight into a loft. He was always known to be stronger that any of the boys in the district, and many others who were regarded as strong men tried to beat him but he was never beaten in throwing weights.
