    As I roved out one morning in Spring
    Every rose grows merry in time,
    I met a fair maid and she bleaching
    her clothes
    And she said she would be a true lover of mine.

    If you be a true lover of mine
    Every rose grows merry in time,
    You must get my shirt made without
    sewing or seam
    And then you will be a true lover of mine
    III
    You must wash it in a springwell
    Every rose grows merry in time,
    Where a drop never ran nor never
    had sprung
    And then you will be a true lover of mine
