  1. Oftentimes the quiet scene is disturbed by the arrival of 'strawboys'. These are neighbouring boys so well disguised in strange garments that they could not be recognised. The man of the house generally received them kindly and gave them plenty of drink. If received otherwise they might prove destructive.
