  1. An Old Song

Joe Mor McDonnell, success to his honour,

    I
Joe Mor McDonnell, success to his honour,
Who lived in Doocastle in the County Mayo,
    Like a duke or monarch
Or a man of great honour
Joe Mor McDonnell that carries the sway.
    II
    Tá bord ins an h-alla
    Agus sgríobtha ar an mballa
"Is cuma cér b'as thú suidh síos is bí ag ól".
    III
Joe Mor McDonnell was a man of great honour
He had riches and honour like Tom of Cloonmore
He had a young daughter who lately got married
To young Mr Darcy the Pride of Mayo.
N.B. This is all that is known of this old song. An account of Joe Mór McDonnell is given earlier in this book. He was Landlord of Doocastle property and was succeeded by his son-in-law, Martin Darcy.
