Many people in this district have beliefs and superstitions concerning the weather., for instance, if a cat is seen sharpening her claws or if a dog is seen eating grass it is a sign of bad weather. A ring round the moon is believed to be the sign of a coming storm, and a star falling is the sign of frost or a change in the weather. Red clouds in the west, at sunset, especially when they have a tint of purple, predict fine weather, but a yellow sunset foretells rain.
