  1. Churning
    Big churns are not very common nowadays, but in some country houses they are still in use. In my house there is such a churn, it is wide at the bottom and narrow as it nears the top. Its sides are round and it is about six years old. Butter is usually made twice a week in summer, and the rest of the milk is sent to the creamery. There are a great many superstitions concerning churning. If any person comes into a house where a churning is being done he is supposed to give a helping hand, for if he does not do so he has the power
