  1. St. Brigid's Eve.
    On St. Brigid's Eve the old people always made a cross of wisps of straw or rushes. That cross was put up on the rafter of the kitchen. That i done every year religiously and is supposed to bring good luck for the year.

    On the Eve of May Day the old people used to collect herbs and cow-slips from the pasture fields and rub the Cows' udders with them. That was supposed to keep the butter from being taken from them. People don't give out milk on May Day, or a live coal, the
