  1. 4 miles s. West of Foxford 1252 Known in old catalogues as Abbey of Athleton. Founded by Mac Jordans as Franciscan Abbey - transferred to Dominicans.
    Founded 1253 (Anal Ce burned 1254. Oldest Annals of Ireland in Latin Annals de Mortis Ternando (Mullyfarnham) supposed to be written by a Dominican of Strade. 1256 Bishop of Lismore received at Athlone 122 marks in support of Prusade from Dom Friar from Strade.
    1434 Indul granted to faithful who would help to restore Abbey.
    1578 Lease of S. Abbey to James Harvey for 21 years.
    1588 " " S " to Patk. Barnewall for 40 yrs.
    1756 Seven friars & in 1767 four.
