    would not touch a stick that rests in these forts, because it is said a man who cut a stick in one of the forts got an awfal punishment. When he was going to bed he put the stick up on the loft over his head. In the middle of the night the stick started dropping blood on him, and he was taken blanket and all and left on the floor. He was stept in blood from the bleeding stick.
