  1. Over a century ago there lived in Cloonfiacra a man Mr Nolan and he intended to build a mill. He employed a number of men to make a river from Lough Rut to the mill to have a current to turn the mill wheel. Those men labored hard for six months making the river and when they had it finished to a little none of them had the courage to let the waters if the lake flowed out they feared it would bring ill luck. He offered a half crown for any of them that would do it but they refused. He offered five shilling but they still refused but one man said that if Mr Nolan gave him ten shillings he would let it go. He agreed and the man let it go as soon as he
