    but the opening that leads into their room is so narrow that it is impossible to pass through it. The Irish people are supposed to have built those forts long ago. They built the cashel for a place of safety in which to hide from their enemies, and they built the forts as look - outs from which they could see an enemy approaching while still a long distance away. The forts are also believed to be the home of the fairies. Nobody ever interferes with fort or cashel for each occupies only a small piece of ground and that is stony or hilly.
