    Mr. Henry in Cloontumper. In some places school was held in the fields during the summer months, but usually a shed or barn was used. All the teachers were local men and during the winter months school was carried on in their homes. When the teacher did not reside in the village he lodged one night in each pupils home and got his food and lodging free for teaching the children of the house. The other children paid him each a penny a week. Quill pens were used for writing.
