- The Landlord of the district was Austin Crean. He owned all the land of the district. He was a nice man and the people liked him very well. There was another Landlord named Richard Prendergast. He evicted a great many people from their holdings and houses. When people were evicted they broke all their vessels in the house. When they were evicted some of them went to England and others went on the road begging. Other Landlords in the place were John Frestan and William Rush. The Landlords were all strangers when they got possession of the land in the district. Austin Crean's father was a landlord and he came from Co. Sligo. If the people did not pay the rent they would be evicted by the Landlords. The Landlords kept the best and the most of the land for themselves. The Landlords had the tenants suppressed. Tithes were gathered in the district by the Landlord. The people had to pay money or to give to of the produce of the land. The Landlords had a great many hunting horses. There was once a Landlord in the place and he evicted a great many(continues on next page)
