  1. The first football match played in this district, that I heard of was between Knock, the neighbouring parish and Bekan.
    A man that was in England brought the football to this parish and after practising for about a year they said they would play against Knock. The field they played in belongs to Martin Grogan.
    They had four sticks about five feet long and these served as goal-posts.
    There were about eighteen players on each side and the referee was Michael Lyons. It is said that some players had tags on but I don't believe that. The match lasted for two hours
