  1. There are a good many forges in the parish. The forge that we go to is situated in Carrickacat and the owners name is Jack McDonnell. The forge is not slated it is thatched. There is no door to the forge. Jack McDonnell shoes horses and asses and he makes ploughs and he mends harrows. The fire place is placed on a kind of a table made of stone also on that table is placed an iron basin for holding water for cooling the shoes before they are put on if they are hot. The belows is in a house for itself at the back of the forge. Jack McDonnell can make spades and shovels and picks if he is asked to but the people buy them. There is
