  1. There were two fair-greens in Knock at one time. One in James Heneghans land another in John Killkennys. The fairs were not always held in the towns. There was a fair-green also in Ballina Costello at one time. The farmers used to go from house to house buying stock. The reason why fairs died out in the country was there were no railways near or trucks to bring the stock. Custom is usually paid in various towns where fairs are held. The rate varies
