  1. Some bread was made from flour and some more bread made from oaten meal in olden times. The flour was not made locally.
    Some of the people remember querns used for grinding oats and wheat. The kind of bread made in the district was a potato-cake, boxty bread and oatenmeal bread. The way to make a potato-cake is to get boiled potatoes and salt and some flour and bake them.
