an hour. The churning is done by hand and is moved upwards and downwards. When the churning is finished the churn-dash is rolled from side to side to gather the butter.
When all the butter is on the top of the milk the people know that the butter is made. there is water poured into the churn in Winter. It will help to make the churning. The butter is lifted out of the churn with a butter-spade and it is washed well and all the buttermilk has to be taken out of it. There are no local stories or sayings connected with churning.
