  1. The majority of the old houses in the district were thatched, and they are only one story.
    Some of the houses were thatched with straw, and others with rushes that were procured in the fields.
    The houses are not so plentiful nowadays as they were long ago. The old houses had a bed in the kitchen called the hag-bed.
    The fire place was always at the gable of the house. The chimney was made out of stones and mortar. There were smaller windows in the old houses than there are in the new ones.
