    arithmetic, and and Irish catechism. Irish was spoken. Writing was done with a quill pen.
    Each child had to bring a straw mat or a stool to sit on. The straw mats were placed in one line and each child sat on its own mat. There was a blackboard in the school. The teachers did not remain very long in each district. They used to go about from one district to the other.
