    on account of the long fast during Lent. On Whit Sunday it is that it is not right to along the side of a river for fear one would fall in.
    It is said that on May day it is not right to give milk or butter to anyone or to throw out ashes on that morning.
    On St. John's night a bonfire is lighted. On the fifteenth of August the Assumption day most people of Ireland go on a visit to knock in honour of our Lady. On St. Martin's day fowl is killed and the door step is sprinkled with blood. On Halloween it is the custom to go ducking for apples in a bucket of water.
