- When eggs are set down to be hatched the box has to be clean. Fresh straw or hay should be put in it every week. Eggs are left down three weeks for chickens, four weeks for ducks, and four for turkeys and geese. Guinea hens are very scarce round this part of the country. It is supposed that wherever they are, no rats, or mice will be found. They are much like turkeys. The have grey, spotted feathers and red combs on tops of their heads.
