  1. The names commonly used for cows in district are, "The Polly Cow," "The Red Cow," "The Bracked Cow," "The Small Cow," "The Big Cow." There is a story about how the black cow was first seen. There was once a man whose name was "Poverty," because he was very poor. He had a small farm of land in the County Sligo and in it there were many fairies. The poor man was kind to them and gave them shelter in his cabin. One morning when he got up there was a black cow in his meadow. The man was jealous of anyone's knowing that he had her but she began to moo. He was about to kill her when the fairies came and took her away,
