  1. There is an old ruin in Kilmaine quite near the school which was used as a kitchen to cook food for the sick and dying in an hospital, the house now occupied by Mr Igor
    Teacher Kilmaine, 1848 the time of the famine.
    There was a school quite opposite this is now in ruins, in which a Miss Lainer taught and a Miss O'Brien and a Miss Flanagan a Seamistress.
    In the protestant cemetery here are buried Jennings from whom was descended Lord Kilmaine who fought with great distinction in the French Revolution. There was a school at the place now occupied by Collerans, quite near the old cemetery, it was a hedge school a Mr Mc Grath a brilliant
