  1. Long ago people had to make their own starch. They got a fairly large potato. They washed it then they peeled the skin off it. When this was done they scooped it out with a blunt knife in the form of pulp. Then it was put into a saucer of water. When this was done the water was strained away. The liquid had a whitish colour. After a while it set it was ready for use.
