- Long ago the people had old sayings about the weather. Some people believe in them yet. The people knew by the sun, moon, and stars when bad weather would come.
A ring around the moon was called a halo. It was also a sign that God would never drown the world. It was also a sign of bad weather. When there was a very windy day, the people would say that bad weather would come. If the birds flew low that was a sign of bad weather. If the sun went down very red that was a sign of good weather, but if the Eastern sky was striped with red it was a sign of frosty weather to come.
