  1. Long ago the peoples food was very different to the food nowadays. There were only two meals each day in every house. The men did a few hours work before their breakfast. The breakfast was maid of prausaun. The prausaun was oatmeal steeped in cold water and left over night. Then the oat-meal was soft in the morning. The dinner was potatoes, milk, and butter. The potatoes were put in a skib in the centre of the floor. The people sat flat on the ground around it, and eat their dinner.
    The bread was seldom eaten. It was made of oat-meal. This was very strong bread. The people did not eat much meat. On fast days the people eat braucaun. It was made of oatmeal steeped in water also. The bread it was baked on a griddle. More cakes were baked
