Shrove Tuesday was a great feast day, and they always had bacon and cabbage on that day. During the holy season of Lent they used to fast and abstain, and they never put milk in their tea on any Friday during Lent.
On Good Friday they let the infant cry three times with hunger before they gave him anything to eat. From a skib they had their meals. they used to place the pot in the middle of the floor, and they they used to lay the skib on it. They sat n small stools around the skib. They used to place the "dip" in the middle of the skib, and the one mug used to do the whole family.
When the well-to-to farmers had men working, they would put a table in the middle of the floor, and they sat around it. They got potatoes, milk, and butter. There were no small potatoes for the peels. The butter used to be left on a plate in the middle of the table, and then each one used to take a bit as he wished.
