  1. There was an Abbot in Killcolman who was inspired by God to build a church somewhere in the district. One night while he was asleep he had a dream in which he was told to get up, light a torch, and go in the direction of the wind.
    He got up lit the torch and set out in the direction of the wind. He was told that where ever the torch would quench that was where God had appointed the Church to be built. When he came to Bllinsmala the torch quenched. He built the church in Ballinsmala after that.
