Stories of famine times are very seldom heard in this district, although it is said that the year of the famine pressed hard on the people of the locality
hundreds of people it is said died from hunger, some in houses, some in work-houses and others on the sides of the road.
Plagues followed the famine because half of the dead people were not buried and the smell created diseases and plagues . From those plagues many people of this district died.
There is a great grave in Mr. Higgin's field and another where the Pratts Oil shed now stands. In each grave there are no less than forthy buried.
