  1. This district was thickly populated before the famine. The people died in hundreds. Quite a lot of people were buried in a field owned by Mr. Higgins. Big stones mark the place where they were buried. It is believed that other people were buried beind Mr. Ronayne's sawmill. When he was digging in the grounds he found hasps of coffins.
    The potatoes rotted in the ground.
