  1. All houses were generally thatched long ago there were very few slate ones. Some of the people used to put the bed in the corner in the kitchen this corner was called a "hag". Most of the chimneys were made of mortar and stones. Half doors were common enough long ago, but there are very few nowdays. There were not many lamps long ago the women used to make candles of tallow.
