  1. In olden times people were very good walkers. They did not mind walking a distance that cyclists would hardly venture nowadays.
    My grandmother gave me an account of men who walked from here to Dublin on their way to England. Their names were.
    Michael Cosgrove of Meelick and
    John Rynolds of Carrinlough
    In those far off days there were no bicycles, motors or buses. The train was inconvenient and besides they could not afford to pay the train fare to Dublin so they made the journey on foot a distance of about one hundred and thirty miles.
