  1. Long ago hawkers used to go around from house to house selling tea. There used to be one in each village. They used to go around in traps. They used to charge four shillings a pound for it. They used to make the people buy the tea from them in spite of them. They used to leave it behind the plates and behind the dresser. The people used to have to pay for it once it was in the house. There used to be a man go around Lisduff whose name was Higgin-bottom. He used to go around twice a week in a trap. He used to mix a few grains of turf mould when he would be running short of tea. He used to go around Mandays and Fridays. He is dead about forty years now.
