- (continued from previous page)began to inquire bout the boy's home, as when the boy had all told, the old man said, "well the north side of your house there is a white thorn bush growing and under this, there is a pot of gold, so go home now and take this ball with you.""Then cut down the tree in the moonlight, and dig about six inches of the earth, you will then see a lid under this, there is a cat and be very careful to throw the ball into the cat's mouth and kill him, then you will please bring the cat over to me."The boy went home and did as he was told, he found the gold and immediately hid it under the bed. He brought the cat over to the man, and he was then ordered to boil the cat and give some of its soup to the old couple. But while he was cooking he drank some of the soup himself, then he knew all the places where gold was hidden. The old man then partook of the soup, and soon discovered that the boy had taken some of it. So he told the boy to eat some of the cat's meat, but alas! When he did he(continues on next page)
