Signs of good luck
It is lucky to find a farthing lost on the road. It is lucky to meet a white horse on the road. A horse-shoe over the door is a sign of good luck. When people are getting married it is a sign of good luck to tie an old shoe on the back of the car. When people find a closed safety pin lost on the road it is lucky. It is lucky to find a horse-shoe lost on the road. It is lucky to have a black cat in the house. Sometimes people throw the tongs after their friends for luck.
