    about the night of the big wind and that was the cause they were afraid. There was always a cailleach in the old houses. The old woman of the house used to sleep in the caillich and that's how it got its name. The people used to cut a hole in the hob for the ashes, and that was called the ash hole. The people long ago used to thatch with scraws and rushes and reeds. The people had no barns but they used to have the cows and hens in the house. They aways had a clock called the wag of the wall. In the old houses the f(l)oors were made from flags. They had a long crook slinging down the chimney in which they hung pots and kettles. Every old house had a settle bed
