  1. His real name was John Malowney. He used to go around killing priests in the hard times. He got five pounds for the head of every priest. One day a man followed him with a knife and he lay down and pretended he wanted the priest. When the priest came, he attacked him and took of his head and sold it. There was a piece of poetry written over his grave:
    Here lies John the unruly man
    Who rebelled against rope and friar
    Such another man never filled a grave
    Or such a notorious liar
    No man of the name Malowney could be ordained a priest and so the name was
