  1. Two fairs are held here in the year. 26th May. 17th October. Doonamoona is about 9 miles from Castlebar. 6 miles from Balla and further again from any other town or Railway Station.
    The May fair is chiefly a sheep fair: though of course cattle are sold as well.
    The fair is a very old fair no one living now has any idea of when it was started. The fairs are getting smaller though they are of considerable size yet.
    There is a fair sized field set apart for the fair: This field except on the two fair days form part of the holding of land
