  1. The following was collected by Bridgie Joyce (pupil) from John Roache an aged man living in her village. He heard it in his youth from old people of the village. The fort mentioned is within sight of the girl's home.
    Near the village where I live, there lived long ago a man who wanted to buy a cow, but was nervous about doing this important job alone. One day however he took courage and ventured to the neareset town where a fair was being held. Just as he was looking round a friendly voice beside him said, Johnny, I will help you to buy a cow, there is a decent one, just what you want, over there to the right of you. The man and his companion bargained for and bought the cow, and just as he turned round to thank his unknown friend, he was no
